You see a lean, dark-bearded man with kindly eyes.
"Yes, Avatar?"

優しい目をした、やせた黒髭の男だ。
「どうした、アバタール？」

"I am Dr. Johann Spector, of course."

「もちろん、私はジョアン・スペクター博士だ」


Job
He grins.
"To keep you out of trouble, Avatar."
"No, really, for now, I'll be content to be your assistant in your explorations."

彼は微笑んだ。
「君をゴタゴタに関わらせないようにするのだよ、アバタール」
「いや、今のところは、君の探検のアシスタントをするつもりだ」


Mars
"The hypotheses of the Victorian age don't seem to correlate with our modern discoveries about the red planet, Avatar. We'll have to see if our science or their intelligent guesswork is more reliable."
He grins and gestures you closer.
"Considering your history of travels to worlds with fantastic creatures and scientific mysteries, would you care to bet on the scientific reality of this particular Mars? I thought not."
He chuckles.

「この赤い惑星について、ヴィクトリア時代の仮説は、我々の時代の発見とは一致していないようだ。我々の科学か彼らの知的な推測、どちらが当てになるのか見届けなくてはならないな、アバタール」
彼は微笑んで、君に近くに来るよう手振りした。
「素晴らしい生物や科学的なミステリーに彩られた君の冒険の歴史を鑑みて、この特異な火星の科学的事実に賭ける気はあるかね？私はその気はないがね」
彼はくっくっと笑った。


Freud
"Definitely an interesting man. Highly intelligent. He has yet to do most of his influential studies. You know."

「確かに知的な男だ。とても高い知性だ。知っての通り、彼の影響多大なる学問の大半は、まだ成されていない」


Nellie
"A fascinating woman. Did you know she travelled around the world alone? And made it in less than the 9- days hypothesized in Jules Verne's book. She's pretty unique in this day and age."

「素晴らしい女性だ。君は、彼女がたった一人で世界一周の旅をしたことをしっているかね？そして、それをジュール・ヴェルヌの著書で立てられた仮説よりも９日も早く成し遂げたのだ。彼女は、この時代にして非常にユニークだよ」


Tesla
"Tesla is a first-class scientist. Definitely unorthodox in his approach, but he achieved some miraculous breakthroughs in his career with electricity and magnetism. I'm glad he's on our side!"
He grins.

「テスラは一流の科学者だ。確かに、彼のアプローチはオーソドックスでないが、彼の電気と磁気の業績で、数々の奇跡的な進歩が成されている。彼が我々の側にいることは、大変喜ばしい！」


Blood
"Actually, I don't know too much about his work. I know he worked… sorry, works… primarily with the use of oxygenated air on patients."

「実際、私は彼の仕事についてあまり多くは知らないのだ。私が知っているのは、彼が主に患者に酸素性の空気を用いた…おっと、すまない…用いているということだ」


Garrett
"I'm afraid I don't know much about Mr. Garrett. He certainly seems like a classic cowboy, doesn't he? I'm sure he'll be useful to have along."

「申し訳ないが、私はギャレット氏については多くを知らない。彼は古典的なカウボーイように見えないかい？彼を一緒に連れて行くと何かと便利だろうと思うよ」

"I'm right with you, Avatar. Are you feeling OK?"
「私はまさに君と行動しているではないか。気は確かか？」


Leave
He shakes his head firmly.
"No, Avatar. I realize that you are a seasoned warrior, and an intelligent person, but you are not a trained scientist, and you are in a very unusual situation."
He smiles.
"Besides, you must allow me my delusion of being needed. It's important to my self-image. Just ask Dr.Freud."

彼は頑なに首を振った。
「ダメだ、アバタール。君が熟練の戦士で知性もある人物だとは認めよう。しかし、君は科学についてあまり練達していないし、非常に特異な状況下に立たされている」
彼は微笑んだ。
「さらに君は、私が必要とされているという妄想を許さなくてはならないんだ。これは私の自己イメージにとって重要なことなんだ。このことはフロイト博士に尋ねてみてくれ」

"Yes, yes. We'll talk later."
「おお、そうだな。また後で話そう」
